Cristian I. Castillo-Davis, Ph.D.

Cristian is an evolutionary biologist specializing in comparative genomics and bioinformatics.

He earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University in evolutionary genetics and molecular evolution under Daniel L. Hartl in the Department of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology in 2003. He went on to complete a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in computational biology and statistics with Jun. S. Liu in the Department of Statistics, also at Harvard University in 2006.

Until 2012, he was Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park where he headed the Laboratory of Evolutionary Genomics. He is currently on medical leave from academia and is looking forward to re-joining his colleagues soon in the adventure of scientific discovery.

Cristian has made significant contributions in comparative genomics, molecular evolution and bioinformatics. He is the author of the popular statistical genomics software GeneMerge. He has published a number of peer-reviewed research articles in journals such as Nature Genetics, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Genome Research, Trends in Genetics and Bioinformatics.
